CoolFLEX collet chucks and end mill holders feature a coolant path that can be switched from coolant-through-spindle to DIN style coolant simply by removing two setscrews.

This feature can save thousands of dollars when compared to the cost of tooling-up both coolant- through and DIN coolant spindles.
CoolFlex holders are available for CAT40 and CAT50 spindles, in ER collet chuck and End Mill holder styles. The collet chucks are available in sizes in ER16, ER20, ER25, ER32 & ER40 and are balanced to 18,000 RPM. The end mill holder styles range from ID 1/4” to ID 1-1/4” and are balanced to 10,000 RPM.
All CoolFlex holders are factory set for the coolant-through-spindle application and can be changed to DIN style by the user. CoolFlex collet chucks come with Techniks’ “Power Coat” nut that increases clamping power on the tool shank up to 75%.

Did you know that there is a torque specification on your collets?
Many people use a cheater bar to tighten down collets believing that the "tighter is better" but that's not always the case. Like all toolholding collets, ER style collets are spring collets with a 30 degree front taper and a 16 degree back taper (a "free releasing 'locking-taper" just like your steep taper toolholder)
When the 16 degree taper "locks" and you continue to over-torque the collet nut, the collet can twist and, under the normal load of cutting conditions, the cutting tool will run-out. Be sure and check out our website and see the torque chart to make sure that you are getting the most tool-life out of your end mills and cutting tools.

Over-tightening can distort or even crack collets, causing runout problems and premature failure of the collet, nut, tool holder and cutting tool.
Under-tightening can also cause poor cutting performance, or allow cutting tools to fly out of the spindle – a very serious safety hazard.

If you are using carbide drills 6mm and smaller and getting inconsistent tool life, it is more than likely that your collet is the problem. The reason is because standard collets at these drill sizes do not provide consistent T.I.R., so wear is increased.
